Corporate Angel Network Appoints Aviation Veteran Robert Stangarone President and CEO

White Plains, NY, January 29, 2024 – Robert Stangarone has been appointed President and CEO of Corporate Angel Network (CAN), a nonprofit organization that provides cancer patients free transportation on corporate aircraft to travel to specialized medical centers for treatment. The organization has coordinated more than 68,000 flights since its founding in 1981.

According to CAN Chairman Jean Rosanvallon, “The decision to bring Robert Stangarone on board was driven by the recognition of his impressive background, extensive expertise and proven success as a corporate leader, journalist and pilot. I believe he is the ideal leader to steer CAN to even greater heights.”

“Corporate Angel Network is a quintessential illustration of how the business aviation community contributes to our quality of life and helps save lives,” Stangarone said. “The program offers companies with corporate jets the ability to couple business activities with corporate social responsibility, while reducing cancer patients’ physical, emotional and financial stress as they go through the most difficult of times,” he said.

Stangarone has decades of experience as a corporate leader, journalist, and pilot. He has worked with dozens of Chairmen and CEOs and has held senior management positions at United Technologies’ Pratt & Whitney and Sikorsky units, Rolls-Royce, Litton, Fairchild Dornier, Cessna Aircraft and Embraer. He is a former flight and aerobatics instructor and holds a Commercial Pilots License with instrument and multi-engine ratings. He is type-rated in the Cessna Citation CJ Series business jets.

Stangarone has been widely published in aviation trade and general news media, including the Washington Post, International Herald Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Aviation Week & Space Technology Magazine, Smithsonian Air & Space Magazine, and Air Transport World Magazine.

He serves on the Board of Directors of the National Aeronautic Association and its Collier Trophy Selection Committee and is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the New England Air Museum which, since he became chairman in 2020, has experienced record growth and the introduction of innovative exhibits incorporating virtual reality and other advanced technologies. Over the years, Stangarone has served on numerous aerospace industry advisory boards and committees.

He holds a BA degree in Natural Sciences from Adelphi University and an AS degree in Engineering from Nassau College. He has completed executive leadership courses at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School, the University of Virginia Darden School, and the Hartford Graduate Center.
